Chilako Valley Outfitters provides premium deer hunting. Our deer hunters are provided the opportunity to hunt trophy white and black tailed (mule) deer. Our hunting area's terrain is diverse, ranging from timbered ridges to deep, long willow draws and rolling grass covered hills. Deer flourish in the right conditions, and our area gives them superb conditions, resulting in fantastic deer hunts. Our mature bucks are trophy quality, giving hunters the opportunity to be very selective.
Our success rate for this hunt is very high. In past seasons, we have been 100% on opportunity, with bucks taken that average in the high 160's. About 15% of our rifle mule deer hunters, will harvest a buck that will gross over 180". For those who can remain patient in their pursuit of a trophy mule deer, the odds of connecting are excellent!
Black tailed deer are widely distributed, and have an impressive population. They range from the far southern reaches, to the boreal forests of the north-central part of the province, providing tremendous trophy potential in all areas. Black tailed deer have some of the largest body weights found anywhere, averaging nearly 250 pounds but can exceed 300. Black tailed deer have the antlers to match. They are most noted for their incredible mass and dark coloration, with a large percentage sporting non-typical points.
Black tailed deer favor open areas, which provides perfect spot-and-stalk hunting. They are not near as flighty as the whitetail deer, so archers also have an excellent opportunity to sneak within bow range. In more heavily treed areas of the forests, tree stands are used. Hunters are positioned along favored trails or near feeding areas. Because our area has both black and white tailed deer populations, hunters can also hunt whitetails.
Please contact us for the current season openings. Hunters should opt for camouflage clothing with shades of brown in it. Snow camo is a good choice for late-season hunts, but there are years where there can be no snow at all, so bringing both are the best option.
